Writing tips

You never need any of this. Just write. But if you want an entry to say who was speaking, or to look a certain way, here's everything Solous understands. Every example on this page is shown exactly the way your journal shows it.

Emotions: who inside you is speaking

Above every writing box is a row of chips: Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, Calm, Doubt, and any you add. Put the cursor on a line and tap one: that emotion speaks from that line on, until you pick another. Most entries need just one tap at the start. The chip that is lit shows who is speaking where your cursor is.

One emotion for the whole entry

You type
@😊 Joy: I got the job!
I called Mum straight away.

We went out for dinner.
You see

😊 Joy I got the job!
I called Mum straight away.

We went out for dinner.

Tap a chip once at the start. Everything after it is that emotion's, across lines and paragraphs.

Switching speakers

You type
@😊 Joy: They picked me.
@😟 Fear: What if I'm not good enough?
@😌 Calm: One day at a time.
You see

😊 Joy They picked me.

😟 Fear What if I'm not good enough?

😌 Calm One day at a time.

Tap another chip on a new line. The new emotion speaks from there on.

Back to no emotion

You type
@😀 Anger: That meeting was a waste.
@-: Anyway, dinner was nice.
You see

😀 Anger That meeting was a waste.

Anyway, dinner was nice.

Tap β€œNo emotion”. It's stored as @-: and shows nothing.

An emotion with a title under it

You type
@😊 Joy:
# The day I said yes
I got the job.
You see

😊 Joy

The day I said yes

I got the job.

Press Enter right after the emotion: it gets a line of its own, and the title starts below it.

Your own emotions, with or without emoji

You type
@The 15-year-old me: Finally!
@🌊: just the sea today
You see

The 15-year-old me Finally!

🌊 just the sea today

Tap β€œ+” after the emotion chips, or type @Name: at the start of a line.
